What Family Tasks is

Family Tasks (familytasks.org) is a household task management app. Families create an account, add members, assign chores, and track points and rewards. It is operated by Jeremy Kelly.

Information we collect

• Account information — name and email address when you sign up.
• Family and task data — the tasks, schedules, points, and rewards you create and manage inside the app.
• Google Calendar data — if you choose to connect Google Calendar, we store an OAuth access token and refresh token on your behalf, and cache the upcoming calendar events you authorize us to read. This data is used only to display your events in the Family Tasks calendar view.
• Usage information — standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited). We do not use third-party analytics.

How we use your information

• To operate and provide the Family Tasks service.
• To display your Google Calendar events alongside your family tasks when you have connected your calendar.
• To send transactional notifications within the app (task completions and replies to messages you send us). We do not send marketing email.

We do not sell, share, or disclose your personal information or your Google data to third parties, except as required by law.

Google Calendar integration

When you connect Google Calendar, Family Tasks requests read-only access to your calendar events (calendar.readonly scope). We use this access to:

• Read your upcoming calendar events and store a local copy in our database.
• Display those events in the Family Tasks calendar view alongside your household tasks.

We do not modify, delete, or create events in your Google Calendar. Cached event data is deleted when you disconnect your calendar from Family Tasks. Your Google OAuth tokens are stored securely and used only to refresh event data.

Family Tasks's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Data storage and security

Your data is stored on Railway's managed PostgreSQL infrastructure. We use HTTPS for all connections. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text.

Data retention and deletion

• You can disconnect Google Calendar at any time from App Settings. This immediately revokes our access and deletes all cached calendar events.
• To delete your account and all associated data, email [email protected]. We will delete your data within 30 days.

Children's privacy

Family Tasks is designed for use by families, including children as members managed by a parent or guardian. Children's accounts are created and controlled by a parent within the family account. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 without parental involvement through this parent-managed structure.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of Family Tasks after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
